Expanded Advance Voting dates set for Linn County

Linn County Clerk David Lamb has announced an expansion of advance voting dates for people voting in the August 5 Primary Election. "I wanted to give people every opportunity to participate in the electoral process," Lamb said, "so I have scheduled the two Saturday mornings prior to the August primary as additional advance voting dates in our offices at the courthouse."

Lamb said the Saturday voting dates will be July 26 and August 2, with the office open both days from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Voters will need to go to the clerk's office on the first floor of the courthouse to cast ballots on those dates. Advance in-person voting will also be available during regular office hours from July 22 until noon August 4. The clerk's office, located in the courthouse at Mound City, is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Recognizing that many voters travel out of the county for employment, Lamb said he decided to expand the advance voting opportunity to include those folks. "Expanding advance voting to include two Saturday mornings is a way that we can help get as many people as possible involved in the election," Lamb said.

"Any voter who is registered in Linn County may request an advance ballot in our office during regular hours from July 22 through noon August 4, or on the special Saturday advance voting dates. Our staff will check their registration and issue the appropriate ballot for voting," Lamb explained.

Voters may also request an advance ballot by mail. The application form is available in the clerk's office or on the county's web site. Applications for advance ballots may be filed with the clerk's office anytime until noon August 1. Advance ballots that are not voted in the clerk's office at the courthouse must be delivered by mail to the voter's registered address or to an alternate address that can be written on the advance ballot application form. After completion the ballots must be sealed in envelopes provided with the voter's signature on the exterior of the envelope and may be returned by mail or by hand to the clerk's office.

Lamb reminded voters who want to cast an advance ballot by mail that they should allow adequate time for their advance ballot application to be delivered to the clerk's office, the ballot to be mailed to the voter, and the completed ballot to be returned to the clerk's office by Election Day.

"Voters must have a valid registration on file with our office no later than July 21 to vote in the August primary election," Lamb said. "Valid registration means the correct residential address and correct name. Voters who need to update their registration information may do so at any time by filling out a new voter registration form and delivering it to our office."
